We now own a big caravan! I guess its an 80% chance or crazy plan will come to fruition and we will be gypos this winter, although I'm not sure if you can be technically a gypsy if your caravan doesn't move and has split system air-con and WiFi! There are still some issues about geting the beast on and off the block that we have to resolve then its full steam ahead with our adventure in mid July.
Goodbye picket fences, personal space and landscaped gardens and hello mud and portaloos! I've done some poking around blogs of families who live in similar static caravans and have found plenty of inspiration. I figure if a family with 6 children who are HOME-SCHOOLED (caravan-schooled?) in their caravan and survive through snowy American winters can do it, so can we.
We will make it as comfy and painless as we can. From what I've read heating up a caravan is easy. I'm also imagining hiring one of those cosy cafe outdoor heaters. Maybe I can set up a laundry annex and hook-up our washing machine and dryer. It's sounding like we will need our own power station to operate so lucky its only for a few months (although maybe its just more obvious how much power is used when hooking up every household device from scratch). I'll research putting some sort of insulation on the roof. When the boys are being punks I'll just banish them outside for some mud wrestling & they can come in via a strip-down in the laundry wing.
I can't wait to start riding along the creek with the boys & minnie (a path to the creek is just outside our front fence). So many other favourite things are in walking distance (including the school of course) great shops on Lygon St, CERES and many amazing cafes nearby.
Here we are living in cramped wet cold conditions last winter down at Wye River. Caravan life will only be temporary and I'm sure I will have a bubble of excitement inside to carry me along with so much to look forward to.
